One of the Things That Scare Me the Most

Scary and Heartbreaking Wildfire on Mother's Day
Fritch, Texas is a a little town about 34 miles north of my home.  On Sunday afternoon a wildfire broke out and it is not yet contained as of Monday night.  Over 2,500 acres have burned and over 100 homes are gone. On Sunday the wind was blowing horrid and today was much better but still blowing 35-40 mph and of course that is not a good combination with a fire.  God bless the firefighters from all over the Texas panhandle that are fighting the fire.

  1. That is very frightening, and tragic. The southwest is in for some very dangerous conditions this year, and perhaps into the future.

  2. Hey, you are supposed to post that on my Question Of The Week! I too fear fire. We had a grass fire a few years ago and it is utterly amazing how quickly it can spread. Thankfully the volunteer fire department got here and contained the fire before it involved any buildings but it burned all of our neighbor's fields and some of ours. My apartment in Texas caught fire when the children were small and again, it went up the wall and across the ceiling doing huge damage before the FD arrived. Still they were able to contain it. These out-of-control fires are devastating and you wonder how they ever manage to stop them at all.

    1. Especially since here, as I imagine it is where you live, mostly volunteer fire fighters. So scarey. When I was 12 our house burned and my mom was burned horribly bad.

  3. These fires are so awful. Colorado, like many places, has a lot of fire danger this year. The firefighters truly are heroes.

  4. It is scary that the fires can be so very out of control and it seems like over a larger area in the pat few years.

    1. Exactly. Here the fire would change directions with the wind and that is so scarey....I worry about fire fighters getting trapped like those pros in Arizona last year.

  5. I share your fear. There is nothing more frightening. I so hope it doesn't get any closer and they can get it under control before more damage is done.
I had one come within 100 feet of my house in Florida. The sound it makes is purely sinister and evil.

    1. Oh my! 100 feet is way too close! A coupe of years ago a wildfire got within a mile of my house and I thought that was close!

  6. Last year we also had a wildfire about a mile from our home and I was quite scared but I can't even imagine 100 feet. Thank goodness for those dedicated firefighters.
