Yep, We Had Some Wind Friday Night...

Channel 10 News, Amarillo, TX - Texas state troopers say only minor injuries were reported from a wreck that kept one direction of Interstate 40 closed for at least a couple hours.  Troopers confirm a gust of wind blew over three semi-trucks in the eastbound lanes near exit 80, at around 9:20 Friday night.  At around the time of the crash, troopers believed it would take at least until midnight to clear the scene of the crash and re-open the highway.
A while back I mentioned that Amarillo is Quarter Horse country.  Businesses all over town have painted fiberglass Quarter Horses.  This one is the Coca-Cola horse.  My grandson took the photo for me.
I was so disappointed that California Chrome did not win the Triple Crown.  I am not a big horse racing person but I loved his story and loved to see horses run.  I dislike jockeys hitting them with those sticks though (I am sure they have a better name) and I sure am too poor to ever even think about betting on a horse.  I am also disappointed in one of the owner's rant after the loss.  Wish he had stayed on the high road.

  1. Crazy, scary weather seems to be harassing much of the country!
I wanted a Triple Crown winner too. I recorded the broadcast and watched the actual race, but didn't stick around for any post-race comments, so I don't know what was said. I did see some very disappointed faces.

    1. Better that you didn't hear his comments. He was not a gracious loser.

  2. I was wishing he had of won also. He will still bring in some pretty high stud fees. The owner just showed his real side by not losing graciously. It was one of those cases of I loved the story but have lost respect for the owner.

    1. I know. Just makes me sad that he went on such a rant. California Chrome will have a nice life though.

  3. It would have been fun if California Chrome had won and it was too bad his owner did not show himself well in the loss.

    1. Right. Would have been a good time to just bite his tongue and be a gentleman.

  4. I was hoping California Chrome would win, but it was not to be. He is a gorgeous horse all the same.

  5. How quickly we all lost sight of the fact that California Chrome won two of the the big races. That was quite a feat in itself. Beautiful horse. Not so beautiful owner. I actually had a friend attending the Kentucky Derby put $2. on a horse for me once. It was Spend-A-Buck in 1985 and he WON. She brought me back $10.

    1. I think California Chrome won his last SIX races, which is something. I hope his owner feels bad for tarnishing the moment.
